Musicians of the World
“Music inspires change. In places with violence or suppression, music can be a way out. A way to share optimism and hope. A way to break boundaries between people; across lines of fire or gaps of ignorance, between those that live in affluence and those that are stuck in poverty.”
That is the motto of the newly founded network of Musicians of the World. The network has been set up by composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven who has been active in musical projects in conflict areas for quite some years. Three of his best known projects are the concert he set up in Cyprus, bringing together musicians from the two sides of the Green Line: Echoes across the divide, the small festival he organized in Jeruzalem: Al Quds Underground, and the West Bank project: Carried by the wind.
Now he takes his involvement one step further and wants to connect musicians across the globe. Why? Perhaps because he is preparing to make the difference. And why not? His talent has been noticed by many, and his earlier achievements do give him all credits. In April 2011he recieved the UNESCO “Young Artist for Intercultural Dialogue between Arab and Western Worlds Award”
For his newly founded network Merlijn Twaalfhoven still needs musicians. What kind of musicians? Those that create music on places in need. This can be anywhere. Maybe you are one of them? “Musicians of the World brings unknown qualities to the surface from places that mostly spread the noise of violence. Musicians of the World guide musicians in the Western world to inspiring colleagues that remain usually unheard. Tell him about inspiring musicians from tough and conflict-prone areas.” Mail him if you are a Musician of the World yourself. Or help him with a few hours of your time. Connect on facebook.
